This technical presentation provides an overview of acoustic terminology, methods of testing and determining acoustic values including the fundamental difference between key values. In the presentation we look at the BS and EN test standards for acoustic transmission, acoustic absorption, ‘reaction’ to fire ‘resistance’. In looking at sound transmission paths, we examine the various mechanisms that enables sound to travel, both airborne and structure-borne and how design can affect the overall site performance. Additionally, we will cover acoustic design principles of suspended ceilings and raised access floors, potential performance limiting factors, curtain wall interfaces, and the effects of workmanship and composite SRIs.
